I arrived safely in Costa Rica on Saturday night after my morning flight was cancelled. I was picked up from the airport and taken to my host family's (tico) house. I have a mom, dad, two brothers and one sister. Two are teenagers and not very excited about me. I was basically dumped at their house and they speak no English. I have never experienced anything like this. Katia (my tica) and I spend most of our time looking up words to show each other. It is frustrating not being able to communicate past surface conversations. The school here is beautiful and there are mostly girls here around my age, which makes it so fun. Today was my first day of class. There are three of us total so we speak Spanish for four hours and learn as much as we can. Today we have the afternoon off so I thought I would post. It is going to get much busier. I’m sure my two weeks will fly by. I still have to take pictures of my house, family, and room but I will soon.

my school.
pretty sunset from my family's house.
I have to go home for dinner so I can meet up with the girls for some coffee. That is if I can effectively ask for permission.
I will post more if I can.

I laughed out loud at the comment that the teens are not too excited about you. They will warm up, come on it is Mija.
i agree with ken...give them some time and i bet they will warm up to you

WOW!! It looks so neat there...what a great experience! And the girls will for sure love you soon...you're like the coolest girl to know! Tell them you were Siggie Historian...that'll win them over:)
