Save the Date

The past 8 days have been crazy. I have an hour to sit and tell the blogging community, all 4 of you that already know, that Hayden and I are engaged!

Last Monday night was my last night of class for the fall semester. I called Hayden to tell him I would probably get out of class early and then about 45 minutes later to tell him I was on my way home. This is how our conversation went.
Jen: Hey you're not at the gym?
Hayden: No, I'm pretty sore today so I stayed home.
Jen: Well I am on my way home do you want to meet me at my house?
Hayden: Maybe, we'll see. I'll just call you later.

When we got off the phone I actually wondered if he was going to propose because he just sounded so unlike himself on the phone. I pushed that thought quickly out of my head and drove home. I walked upstairs to find Hayden already there. After some small talk for a few minutes I walked towards him. He turned off the T.V. and stood up. I thought we were going to go eat or something, but then he said, "Jen, I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He got down on both knees (he really was sore) and put his hands around my waist. I was already tearing up at this point and he simply said, "will you marry me?" He pulled out the ring and I couldn't see it because the tears had built up in my eyes. I said yes right away but he didn't hear me so he stayed on the ground for an awkward amount of time until I said yes again. He picked me up and we laughed and I kept repeating how we were getting married! After that he took me to our favorite restaurant for a wonderful sushi celebration dinner. I was so excited I yelled at our waitress, "WE'RE ENGAGED! YOU'RE THE FIRST PERSON I'VE TOLD!" We think I scared her. After that we went to his parent's house to tell them and then to my parent's house to tell them. This is what happened behind the scenes.

Hayden talked to my dad on Saturday. The ring was ready Monday instead of Tuesday. Hayden wasn't expecting me home until 9:00 that night after class. Apparently getting out of class early ruined his plans. The greatest thing about our story is that Hayden said that the ring was burning a hole in his pocket. He couldn't wait to ask. It was simple and sweet and we are so excited about planning for this next big step. The timing is perfect and we have felt so much love and support from all of our friends and family.

The big day is Saturday, June 14, 2008. We are getting married in a place we think is going to be beautiful. It actually isn't finished being built yet. And we haven't seen it. We have an idea of what it is going to look like and so we thought, let's take a chance! It is a European inspired villa and garden. We are hoping for the best.

If you made it this far thanks for reading about our story. I have a feeling the next six months are going to fly. We didn't take the best pictures, or very many. We will take some of just the ring and post them soon!

Hey Jen,
This is one of your cousins, from Las Vegas! This is my first chance to congratulate you and your fiance on your engagement. My fiance India and I are getting married in November, and now that I have had a chance to thoroughly enjoy your blog, I wanted you to pass a big hello to Chris and Jerry, as well as Steven. You all look great! The last time I saw you all I believe was in the mid 90's in Austin. Wow, how things have changed since then. I have a blog, and I will be in touch with you all soon. I wish I could have gone to see you guys at this reunion that took place, but unfortunately no one sent us notice. I am looking forward to going to El Paso on September 18-21st for my 30 year high school reunion. India and I will hopefully get a chance to see cousins that I haven't seen in ages. Anyhow, ttyl. love, Raf
